It is finished.

... a mermaid ... more pics to follow. I am going to bed!

Goodbye, Common Sense. I miss you!!

An Obituary printed in the London Times

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

(almost) wordless wednesday ...

I can't be wordless. I know I am missing the point, but if you are a purist, then just stop reading and let the picture do the talking. Chefee (the hubs) makes the best s'mores for me. While toasting my two marshmallows to the perfect meltiness (which is a light tan, slightly crisp outside, completely melted inside), he warms the chocolate next to the fire. Hershey's chocolate, when slowly melted like this, will retain its outer shape while the inside melts away. When the marshmallows have reached perfect toasting goodness, he smooshes it all together into this glorious, ooey-gooey finger licking madness. Nom nom nom ...

"Supah" Cool Giveaway

I am a new fan of SupahMommy and she has a great giveaway going on... I am posting this for the extra entries so I would appreciate it if, while you go over and read Supah's blog, you don't actually enter the contest, because that would defeat the purpose of me gaining an edge in this competition and I am greedy and want the prize ALL FOR MYSELF.

Okay, fine, you can enter too. It's fun to share. Or so I tell my kids daily.
To read about the giveaway, click here. The deadline is October 30th.

Good luck. And thanks, Supah!!

What the ???

Hey Mother Nature,

It's October 16th. Not January 16th. I mean, we all tolerated your incredibly crappy summer and we were hoping for a mild winter to make up for it. But this? This is just not nice. So I beg you...

I think you've made your point now.
You've even gone a bit to far to get the message home.
Before it gets too frightening,
we ought to call a halt!
So, could we start again, please?

... this weekend ...

The big Columbus Day weekend is here! This will be us:

Have a good weekend! See you on the flip side.

All pictures from Columbus Day 2008. Yes, our campsite is a mess. We are the Clampetts of the camping world apparently :-) But I don't care. I love it. And look at that foliage. Hurray for New England. Almost makes up for November, December, January, February, March and April. Almost. Alright, gotta go. I miss you already. I don't know if we have wireless internet. Bye. *sniff*

Me ... Right Now

A fire. Jammies. Feet up. TV that is not Nick Jr.
Life is good again.

It's downright shameful ...

Do you see how many unread posts are out there? Waiting for me? Unread???

For excuses, I offer the following. I have been battling (in no particular order) satan’s* minions, bacteria, work and computers. The honey’s computer died so I have been sharing mine. All of us have been sick (one in ER for breathing trouble) so I missed work. Which means I was extra busy at work so no stopping for lunch. And the worst? satan’s minions. They have been extra busy … constantly chipping away at me with their incessant little evil hammers … tap tap tap … Why are they so tireless? Especially in the wee hours of the morning when I am supposed to be sleeping? … tap tap tap … grrrrrr. Constant prayer and vigilance. It’s all I got. Feel free to help.

While I was busy finding a hard hat, I was awarded a blog award! Very sweet!

As part of the acceptance, I in turn give this award to the following people:

Chief from [Hiding from the Kids]: for amazing Sweetness. I am sure I am breaking all kinds of rules, but back at ya! Chief has shown me so much bloggy love, it’s like she is my own personal angel sent to keep the tapping away. Thank you for that!

Laura from Team Moffitt: for being a girl who loves a boy. I love following along with her adventures. And I love that she has such sweet love for her man. It tickles my inner romantic.

Pren from Convivial Crafter: For being the girl I wanna be. She is so creative and crafty and such a storyteller. I am totally living vicariously through Pren.

M-Cat from That's What She Said: For her love of Sissy. She constantly reminds me to appreciate the joys of children. And I exercise vicariously through her.

Kristina from Pulsifer Predilections : For keeping me from buying all kinds of things I’ve seen on TV. The sacrifices she has made for her readers is truly amazing. And we thank her for it.

Please be sure to visit these ladies. You will be glad you did! I know I am.

Here is the fine print. To accept this award, you must do the following:

1) Each Superior Scribbler must in turn pass The Award on to 5 most-deserving Bloggy Friends.

2) Each Superior Scribbler must link to the author & the name of the blog from whom he/she has received The Award.

3) Each Superior Scribbler must display The Award on his/her blog, and link to This Post, which explains The Award.

4) Each Blogger who wins The Superior Scribbler Award must visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky List. That way, we'll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who receives This Prestigious Honor!

5) Each Superior Scribbler must post these rules on his/her blog.

I’m back and will be commenting in no time. I have a lot of catching up to do… I missed you all!!!

*satan doesn't deserve enough respect to be capitalized. So there!
